Indore: The historic legacy of Lalbagh Palace in Indore will return to its old splendor as the State Archeological Department, Indore Development Authority (IDA) and Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) have launched a project worth Rs23 crore to restore the palace's building, including ceiling, furniture, tiger trophies and paintings. The garden of the palace will also be regenerated to Holkar's time.

The project is likely to be completed in one or one-and-half years. Beside this, the State Archeological Department, IDA and IMC will also financially and logistically support the restoration of historic building of Holkar dynasty era.

The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Akash Tripathi.

Talking to Free Press after the meeting, Tripathi informed that a proposal from nationwide expert agencies would be invited for the restoration of this historic building and thereafter an agency would be chosen to carryout out the restoration work.

The meeting also proposed waterproofing of Lalbagh Palace, restoration of main gate and restoration of furniture maintained in the dining hall. Old glory of Darbar Hall will also be returned. In the first phase, internal revival of premises will be done.

After this, Heritage Garden will be developed in the second phase. The revival of the garden will be done by IMC at the cost of Rs6 crore. The boundary wall of the palace will also be restored.

Tripathi said that arrangements will be made to make tourists aware about the historical importance of the palace through headphones.

The meeting was attended by Indore Municipal Commissioner Ashish Singh, IDA CEO Vivek Shrotri, Joint Commissioner Revenue Sapna Solanki, Deputy Director Archeology KL Dabi and other officers.
