The above-ground exhibit, called "Imagining the LowLine", featured some of the cutting edge solar technology that will shine throughout the subterranean space, as well as an awesome immersive sound installation and a giant 50-foot-long model of Manhattan's subway map. The curatorial team is also developing informative panels that will showcase the local and international support for the world's first underground park. Johnsen Schmaling Architects has designed an inspiring studio that allows a Country Western musician to reach into the depths of his soul to compose heart-stirring tunes. Propped on top of a vegetated concrete plinth that provides storage space, the 500 square foot steel-clad structure has glazed openings on either side of it that create a portal to the surrounding woods in Wisconsin.

World Trade Center Health Care Will Soon Cover Cancer Caused by Toxic Dust

Survivors of the September 11th attacks can now breathe a little easier. Just in time for the anniversary of the tragedy, the World Trade Center Health Program announced that it will soon provide coverage for workers and victims who now have cancer as a result of inhaling toxic dust from the wreckage. The program initially began when police detective James Zadroga died at age 34 due to exposure to toxic dust from Ground Zero, but the list of illnesses covered under the act did not previously include cancer.

David Ho from edg Creatives turned to Cinderella for a way to sass up the firm's offices in China. Inspired by the fairytale horse carriage magically transformed into a pumpkin-shaped vehicle used to carry the belle to the ball, the pumpkin room made from polycarbonate panels and wrapped around a cylindrical structure is designed to give employees a creative space in which to hatch awesome brainstorming sessions.

London's Movement Cafe is a Pop-Up Eatery Made From Recycled Shipping Containers by Greenwich Park

A property developer hired Morag Myerscough to design and build a pop-up cafe to spruce up the area around the Greenwich rail station for the London Olympics. The result was the eye-popping Movement Cafe (MVMNT Cafe), which is built from recycled shipping containers, reusable scaffolding, and brightly painted wood walls. Constructed in only 16 days, the cafe was open just in time for the start of the Olympics to serve up locally sourced, food and drink - including homemade vegan-friendly gelato - to spectators headed out to Greenwich Park.

Nendo's Ando Momofuku Center Tree House is an Apartment Building for Birds!

The creative designers at Nendo have wowed us again by creating a tree house for humans that doubles as a sanctuary for nesting birds. This "Bird Apartment" was installed in Komoro City, Japan at the Ando Momofuku Center, whose mission is to promote access to nature. The structure's design pushes the center's vision to a whole new level by allowing visitors within the human dwelling to get a spyglass look into each of the 78 bird homes.

Scientists Predict That Food Riots Will Grip The Planet Within A Year

A few years ago, Sir John Beddington, the UK government's chief scientific advisor stated that with the world's population growing, food supplies diminishing, and water supplies becoming more scarce, all of these factors would combine to form a 'perfect storm' in 2030 resulting in food shortages and rioting. However, the New England Complex Systems Institute believes he is way too optimistic with his timing. In fact, the complexity theorists think that if we don't reverse the current trend in food prices, we've got until August 2013 before social unrest sweeps the planet.

Russian University Team Edges Closer to Cloning a Woolly Mammoth

Earlier in the year, we reported that South Korean and Russian scientists were working together to clone a woolly mammoth from bone marrow found in well-preserved remains in the thawed permafrost of Siberia. Now an international team of researchers from Russia's North-Eastern Federal University has found living cells in mammoth hair, soft tissues and bone marrow uncovered 328 feet (100 meters) underground during a summer expedition in the northeastern province of Yakutia.

The Ocean Observatories Initiative Is a "Hubble Telescope for the World's Oceans"

In order to fully understand the world's oceans a new program called The Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) has just been launched. The program will span 25-years and be responsible for managing a networked set of 100s of sensor instruments that will sit in the ocean, take measurements, send data back to a massive data infrastructure, and make data-sets and reports available to oceanographers, scientists, educators, and the public on a very broad scale. In short, it is a Hubble Telescope for observing the world's oceans.
