HP Slate 500 specs revealed - what was confirmed, plus one big surprise

Posted by admin on September 26th, 2010

One great thing from the unboxing and review video that was previously leaked was that we finally got some hard, concrete specs on the HP Slate. Previous reports had the unit pegged with a single core Intel Atom processor, a measly 32gb of storage and no clue on if it can handle any type of HD video. Well we've broken down the video for you and got the specs listed for your consumption. Check it out after the break.

PROCESSOR

  • Intel(r) Atom(tm) Processor Z540 (512K Cache, 1.86 GHZ, 533 MHZ FSB)

  • Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator

STORAGE

  • 64GB Solid State Flash Module

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Integrated WiFi WLAN (B/G/N)
  • Bluetooth
  • HP Broadband Wireless

DIMENSIONS

  • 9.21'' x 5.7'' x .57''
  • 1.49lbs

  • 1 Audio Jack; Integrated Speakers
  • 1 USB ports (v2.0)
  • SD Card Reader

OPERATING SYSTEM

  • Microsoft(r) Window(r) 7 Home Premium: 32 Bit

AUDIO

  • Built-in High Definition Audio
  • 2 Channel Stereo Speakers
  • Omni-Directional Microphone

DOCKING STATION

  • Hold Slate in portrait or landscape modes
  • 2 USB connections
  • Power and charging
  • HDMI output

OTHER

  • Front and Rear facing camera (3 megapixel rear, front is unkown)
  • CTR-ALT-DEL button for domain logins
  • Protective Pouch
  • Stylus Pen

POWER/BATTERY

  • 2-Cell 30WHr Lithium-Ion Battery
  • 5 Hours Typical Battery Life
  • Auto sensing Universal AC Adapter/Charger

WARRANTY

What's interesting here is that HP may possibly be offering their own 3G service under the "HP Broadband Wireless" along with the slate launch. That would definitely put it on par with the Apple iPad and their built-in 3G offerings.

Any clues if this will be Q4 2010 release?

All indications are pointing to yes. A pre-December prototype leak, plus general availability of parts and software now I would say we'll see the Windows 7 version this year, with the webOS version launching late January.
